The Iraqi Association for Information and Communications Technology (IAICT) continues its diligent follow-up on the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite internet file, which has become a focal point of extensive discussion among specialists and decision-makers in Iraq.

The Association, through its follow-ups and scientific activities, affirmed that the introduction of satellite internet services – foremost among them systems like Starlink – represents a qualitative leap in enhancing digital coverage, especially in remote areas deprived of terrestrial infrastructure, due to the high speeds and low latency these technologies provide compared to traditional systems.
However, this technological shift has been accompanied by increasing regulatory and legal debate, as the discussion now centers on the mechanisms for granting licenses and the conditions required to operate this service within Iraq. Recent data indicates that the Iraqi government has effectively entered the phase of regulating this sector, by approving licenses for satellite internet operation and opening the door for global companies to work within official frameworks.
