The Iraqi Association for Information and Communications Technology (IAICT), in cooperation with the Digital Development Center (DDC), organized a qualitative electronic workshop that addressed the health and environmental risks of telecommunications towers and reviewed reports and positions of relevant international organizations.

The lecturer at the workshop was Dr. Hussam al-Din Hameed Khaled, a faculty member at the Higher Institute of Communications and Posts / Ministry of Communications, who addressed a set of important scientific topics, including types of ionizing and non-ionizing electromagnetic waves, and the internationally adopted standards of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

The lecturer also reviewed the preventive measures followed to reduce and minimize potential health and environmental risks resulting from exposure to radiation, whether emitted from communication towers or from mobile phones themselves, while also addressing the position of the World Health Organization (WHO) on these risks and its key recommendations to mitigate their potential effects.

At the conclusion of the workshop, emphasis was placed on the importance and necessity of full compliance by relevant institutions with the installation of permanent and temporary towers according to adopted international standards, to ensure the protection of public health and limit any potential long-term effects.
