Upon a gracious invitation from the presidency of Al-Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad, the College of Law received His Eminence Sheikh Qasim Al-Hashimi, Secretary-General of Al-Ghari Foundation for Islamic Knowledge and President of the Association for Specialized Studies between the Seminary and the University.
He was accompanied by an official delegation, and was received at the forefront by the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Malik Al-Husseini, and the university's representative to the association, Dr. Muhammad Muhanna Abdul Ridha, along with a number of college faculty members.
At the outset of the visit, His Eminence reviewed a brief presentation covering the most prominent activities of the College of Law and its scientific and academic achievements, before heading to the college hall to deliver a scientific lecture entitled:
"The New Ja'fari Jurisprudence and Its Legal Implications: From Jurisprudential Renewal to Legislative Foundation."
At the beginning of his lecture, His Eminence explained that the rapid social and legal transformations witnessed in the contemporary world have created real challenges for legal systems, especially those with religious roots, regarding their ability to keep pace with reality and regulate modern relationships. In this context, he affirmed that Ja'fari jurisprudence represents a solid school of jurisprudence characterized by authenticity and methodological flexibility, qualifying it to interact positively with developments through jurisprudential renewal, which does not mean a break with heritage, but rather a conscious scientific re-reading of it and its legislative foundation in line with the requirements of the era.
His Eminence also provided a definition of Ja'fari jurisprudence in its new codification, indicating that the intended renewal does not affect the fundamentals, but rather lies in developing the mechanisms of understanding and deduction, expanding the scope of jurisprudential topics, and moving from the framework of individual fatwa to institutional and legislative thinking.
During the lecture, he addressed a number of key themes, most notably: the jurisprudential foundations of Ja'fari jurisprudence, its contemporary legal implications, the concept and limits of jurisprudential renewal, the principle of "No harm and no reciprocation of harm" and its legislative dimensions, in addition to the reflections of the new Ja'fari jurisprudence on the modern legal structure.
At the conclusion of the lecture, His Eminence emphasized the importance of this approach for students of the College of Law, for its contribution to developing analytical and critical thinking, strengthening the methodological link between jurisprudence and law, opening horizons for comparative legal research, as well as contributing to building a deeper understanding of national legislation. The lecture witnessed clear interaction from the students, interspersed with scientific questions and inquiries to which His Eminence responded.
At the end of the visit, the Dean of the College of Law honored His Eminence Sheikh Qasim Al-Hashimi with a plaque of thanks and appreciation in appreciation of his visit and valuable scientific lecture, while His Eminence presented the shield of the Association for Specialized Studies between the Seminary and the University and a number of its scientific publications, along with a letter of thanks and appreciation to the Dean of the College, expressing gratitude for the cooperation and mutual support.
