Sixth International and Nineteenth National Conference on Statistical Applications in Baghdad
Baghdad – Under the slogan "Statistics and the Digital Future: Modern Methodologies in Data Analysis," the activities of the Sixth International and Nineteenth National Conference on Statistical Applications commenced on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The conference was organized by the Iraqi Association for Statistical Sciences in cooperation with Al-Rafidain University College, the Iraqi Private Banks Association, and the United Nations Population Fund, under the generous patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, who was represented at the conference by the President of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf.
The conference began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and reading of Al-Fatiha for the souls of Iraq's martyrs. The conference president, Dr. Mahdi Al-Alaq, delivered a welcoming speech to the attendees and researchers, followed by speeches from the representative of the conference patron, the Dean of Al-Rafidain University College, Dr. Mahmoud Jawad Abu Al-Shaer, the Director of the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq, Dr. Hind Jalal, and the representative of the Iraqi Private Banks Association.
The conference included two main dialogue sessions. The first dialogue session, chaired by Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Kuneihar, President of the University of Wasit, addressed the topic of "Digital Transformation and Data." The Advisor to the Prime Minister for the Digital Transformation Program, Dr. Diaa Al-Jumaili, delivered a specialized lecture, followed by a research paper presented by the Director General of the Arab Institute for Training and Statistical Research, Dr. Ziad Abdullah.
The second dialogue session focused on the general population census. The Head of the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority presented an overview of achievements in the field of population census. Additionally, Mr. Ahmed Mansour, a representative of Realsoft, a company specialized in digital censuses and surveys, reviewed the stages and steps followed to complete the census.
On the research front, the conference held three specialized scientific sessions during which 40 scientific papers were presented in various fields of statistics and data analysis. Researchers showcased the results of their studies and scientific achievements to the participants.
The conference concluded with the presentation of recommendations aimed at enhancing the use of statistics to support digital transformation and data analysis through modern methods that contribute to sustainable development in Iraq.
